Financial Education - Don't Blink Or You Could Lose Money

In my book about financial education, “Increase Your Financial IQ,” I wrote about four ages of humanity: The Hunter-Gatherer Age, The Agrarian Age, The Industrial Age, and The Information Age.

The Hunter-Gather Age

During this period of history, humans relied

on nature to provide wealth. If you knew how to hunt and gather, you survived. If you didn’t, you died. The tribe was your social security. Everyone was poor.

The Agrarian Age

Eventually, humans learned how to plant seeds, cultivate the land, and domesticate animals. As a result, the land became wealth. Kings and queens owned the land and everyone else worked for them to take care of the land. There were two groups of people, the rich rulers and the peasants.

The Industrial Age

In the Industrial Age, resources such as copper, oil, tin, and rubber were wealth because they were used to make valuable resources. In the Agrarian Age, fertile land was valuable. In the Industrial Age, non-fertile land was valuable because it contained these resources. In the Industrial Age, a new class of people arose—the middle class. There were now the rich, the middle class, and the poor.

The Information Age

Today, we live in the Information Age, which started with the rise of personal computers. Today, information leveraged by technology is wealth. Anyone who has the right financial education, information and the ability to act in time can get rich. In other words, the price of getting rich has gone down.

Losing Money in the blink of an eye

The problem with the Information Age is that you can lose a lot of money very quickly if you blink.

The pace at which information flows and changes, and the massive amounts of information that come our way can make it very hard to respond correctly and in time. This reality makes it hard to think proactively because if you’re not careful, and you don’t have a financial education, you’ll react to every piece of information that comes your way.

Financial Education and Greece

For instance, this last week alone, there were a number of stories that came out regarding Greece. At the beginning of the week, Greece announced a referendum vote that the entire, financial world feared would cause a default on their perilous debt situation. The markets crashed.

That same week, Greece, bowing to political pressure, cancelled the referendum plan. This sent markets skyrocketing back up. And the same week still, Greece’s prime minister agreed to step down and they’re in the process of setting the stage for an interim government, which they voted on Monday. The markets are now uneasy. As one expert said, “Germany and France are closely watching these developments, because what is at stake is the future of the European Union.”

As the information coming out of Greece changed, many people made a lot of money…and many people lost a lot of money, seemingly at the blink of an eye.

Two Types of Financial Education Information

Those who lost a lot of money (or made a lot) were traders. In the Information Age, traders are in the worst position. It’s nearly impossible for a trader to keep up with the flow of information. And since they make their money through transactions, buying and selling, they are susceptible to market swings they have no control over. They are addicted to immediate information.

I don’t like to trade. Instead, I prefer to invest for the long-term in assets that cash flow and that adjust with inflation. As such, I pay attention to the operating history of a particular asset I’m purchasing and the trends over many years in the industry of that asset. I pay secondary attention to what is happening right now. I’m addicted to historical information.

If you want to get rich quick, you can take your chances with immediate information. Of course, you can also get poor fast. If you want to build a lifetime’s worth of wealth, I’d stick with historical information.

For instance, historical information tells me that every currency in the history of the world goes to zero. As such, I’m investing in gold, silver, and oil, as well as real estate. These assets go up in value as the value of a currency goes down. They’re long-term investments, and assets like oil wells and real estate also cash flow, putting money in my pocket each month.

Sure, I still pay attention to some of the immediate information. For instance, I watch the price of gold closely, but not because I want to sell my gold and make a quick cash profit. Instead, I want to know when gold goes down low enough for me to buy some more. I trust gold more than the dollar in the long run.

For the trader, immediate information rules. It’s about buying and selling at the bottom and the top. The problem is you never know exactly when that is, so you have to make your best guess. Sometimes, you make a great guess. Other times, you make a tragic one. It all depends on the quality of your information.

Invest for Cash Flow

My advice is the same as it’s always been. Invest in assets that cash flow and hedge against inflation. In order to do that, you need deep and comprehensive historical information about money and asset classes. This is why I always encourage people to invest first in their financial education.

Immediate information will come and go in the blink of an eye. But a comprehensive financial education will last you a lifetime and help you build wealth for generations.

हर एक मिड्ल क्लास आदमी की ज़िंदगी लोन के चक्कर मे गिरवी होती है कभी होम लोन तो कभी कार लोन तो कभी एजुकेशनल लोन तो कभी मेडिकल लोन और इसको ही प्यारी सी भाषा मे " ई .एम . आई" .कहा करते है. अपनी पूरी जिंदगी लोन चुकाने मे ही बीत जाती है . और इसीके चक्कर में हम फॅमिली से कितनी दूर चले जाते है ये आपक ही जानो और ये एक अलग डिस्कशन का सब्जेक्ट है इसपर हम कभी बाद मे चर्चा करेंगे..

बस इसीका जवाब ढूँढ रहे है .हमारे आसपास पाइप्लाइन के कई ज़रिए उपलब्ध होते है बस हम कभी अनदेखा करते है तो कभी विश्वास नही करते है.. अँग्रेज़ी मे एक कहावत है..

9 dead 47 injured in Delhi High Court blast: Chidambaram

New Delhi, September 07, 2011 :

Delhi High Court blast

At least nine people died and over 47 injured in a bomb blast outside Delhi High Court today. Home minister P Chidambaram told Parliament today. Internal security secretary said it was a medium to high intensity blast. Delhi has been put on high alert.
The explosion occurred outside gate No.5 where 100 to 200 people were waiting in queue to get passes for entry into the court complex. The nature and magnitude of the blast was immediately not known. NSG, NIA and Forensic teams have reached the site.

Internal security secretary said that the investigations are on. Home Minister is to make statement on high court blast.

According to eyewitnesses, many persons were injured in the explosion, which occurred at around 10:17 am and some of them may be in a critical condition. Delhi Special Commissioner Dharmendra Kumar confirmed that 45 people have been injured.

Some of the injured were being treated at a dispensary in the court itself while others were rushed to RML and LNJP hospitals. Special home secretary said that four people are dead.

Court business is usually heavy on Wednesday, which is listed as a Public Interest Litation (PIL) day when the visitors come to the court in large numbers.

Ambulances and fire tenders were rushed to the site. Forensic experts were also rushing to the spot.

The blast area has been cordoned off and police have asked people to clear the area.

Top officials of Delhi police including Special Commissioner (law and order) Dharmendra Kumar and Joint Commissioner of Special Cell R S Krishnaiah reached the spot.

Jt Commissioner (Crime) Sandip Goyal and Special Commissioner P N Aggarwal also joined them.

Kumar said it was too early to ascertain the exact nature of the blast.

He declined to speculate whether the blast was of low intensity or high intensity.

There was no intillenge inputs on the blast, reports say.

It is in the second time in four months that a blast occured outside the Delhi High Court complex. Reports say Potassium Nitrate used in bomb.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha has been adjourned to that government can focus on the blast. Home Minister will make a statement in Parliament.

Delhi high court has been targeted twice in four months. An explosion on May 25 triggered panic prompting the authorities to sound a high alert in the capital and tighten security at public places. No one was injured.

Low-intensity explosives, wrapped in a polythene bag and kept close to the car parked near Gate No. 7, went off around 1.30 p.m. Ammonium nitrate, a battery-like object, wires and some nails were found at the site by forensic experts. (With agencies inputs)

           विराट या स्वायंसेवी संघटनेने केलेया सर्वेक्शनात काही धक्कादायक बाबी निदर्शनास आल्या .सर्वेक्शना बरोबरच या बाबी का घडल्या याचा ही नीट पाठपुराव्यासहित अभ्यास करण्यात आला. हे सर्व आपल्या पर्यंत पोहचवे हीच अपेक्षा.
           आज पाशिमात्य संस्कृतीचं , जीवनशैळीचं केलं जाणारं अंधानुकरण . व्यसन व पार्टी ह्याना मिळणारी तथाकथित मान्यता आणि फ्रीडम च्या नावाखाली महाविद्यालयीन युवक / युवती तसेच शालेय विद्यार्थी/विद्यार्थिनी यांच्यामधील वाढत्या . मुळे तसेच ह्यामधून होणार्‍या पार्ट्या मुळे आपले पाल्य किती हटाबाहेर जात आहे याची पूसटशी कल्पनाही त्यांच्या  आई / वडीलांना  नसावी ही खरच किती खांतची गोष्ट आहे .
          शहरात प्रामुख्याने ९० च्या दशकात परप्रांतातील तालेवर मुळे व मुली मोठ्या प्रमाणात शिक्षणासाठी शहरात येऊ लागली. कोणतेही कौटुंबिक निर्बंध नसल्याने व खिशात पैसे खुलखुलत असल्याने त्यांच्या वागण्यात एकप्रकारचा बेफिकीरपाणा असतो , चरित्र्या स्वैर असते . या दोन्ही बाजू त्यांच्या संगटीमधे राहून स्थानिक महाविद्यालयीन युवक / युवती तसेच शालेय विद्यार्थी/विद्यार्थिनी आत्मसात केल्या. त्यामुळे ओ तत्सम कारणामुळे होणार्‍या पार्टी मधे ओठाना सिगरेट कधी आली आणि गंमत म्हणून ओठाना लावलेल्या प्यालयातील मदिरेचि  व्यसन लागले कधी हे त्यानाच समजले नाही .
           पहिल्यांदा सिगरेट मग मादिरा(दारू, रम , विस्की , बियर ) आणि त्याही पुहील धक्कादायक आणि धोकादाक पायरी ड्रग्स. हे सर्व काही एका दिवसात होत नाही . मग हे सर्व होत असताना पालक कुठे अस्तत.खरच फक्त पैसा मिळवणे हेच जास्त महत्वाचे आहे. आपल्यां मुलावर/ मुलीवर सुसंस्कार करणे हेही तितकेच गरजेचे नाही का ?? प्रत्येक पालकानी खालील बाबी आपल्या पाल्या बरोबर जोडुन त्या किती जूळतात ते पहा, म्हणजे तुम्हाला पासूकच उत्तर मिळेल :-
१) दर रोज शाळा/ कॉलेज संपल्यावर घरी लाट येणे.
२) घरी आल्यानंतर  मित्राला / मैत्रिनिला भेटण्यास जाणे आणि नकार दिल्यास राग येणे
३) स्वतः माडेच जास्त गुंतून जाणे.
४) आई / वडिलन्ह्या बरोबरचे संवाद कमी होणे.
५) मोबाइल फोन चा वापर जास्त करणे.
६) मेसेज पॅक साठी हट्ट करणे
७) आभ्यास करताना देखील मोबाइल फोन जवळ घेऊन बसणे.
८) जर मुलीचा फ्रेंड मुलगा असेल तर त्याचे नाव कॉंटॅक्ट लिस्ट मधे नाव मुलीचे सावे करणे  अँड वाइस वर्सा.
९) दर रोज रात्रीच फिरायला जाणे.
             अशा अनेक लहनसं बाबी आहेत , वेळीच लक्ष ठेऊन आपल्या मुला मधे बदल दिसतो का ते पहा. वरील पैकी ४ बाबी जरी जुळत आसलेस अस समजा की खरच लक्ष देण्याची गरज आहे.
             पुण्यामाधे २ वर्षापूर्वी झॅलेली रेव पार्टी तत्कालीन पोलीस अधीक्षक  श्री विश्वास नंगरे पाटील यानी उधळून लावली होती. त्यावेळी तेथे असलेल्या सव्वाशे मुली कोणालाही शरम वाटावी अशा परिस्थितीत होत्या. हे फक्त पुण्या पुरतेच मर्यादित नाही. या पेक्षा ही भयानक परिस्थिती मुंबई व उपनगरात आहे . ह्या सर्व गोष्टींची कारण मीमांसा करावयाची आसलेस खूप काही गोष्टी पाहणे गरजेचे आहे. त्यामधीलच एक : आपल्या पल्यावर ठेवणेआती विश्वास ठेवणे होय. आज ६५% मुली १६व्या वयातच सेक्स आणि व्यसन ह्या बाबींच्या आहारी जात आहेत तर २५ % मुली बॉय फ्रेंड / गर्ल फ्रेंड किंवा जस्ट फ्रेंड या संकल्पने खाली  सर्रास सेक्स च्या आहारी जात आहेत. याची लक्षणे खालिलप्रमाणे आहेत .
१) मोबाइल फोन मधून चॅट करणे .
२) पर्सनल फोन अगदी भावला / बहिणीला वापरु न देणे.
३) बंद खोलीमधे आभ्यास करणे ( मोबाइल फोन जवळ घेऊन) ई.
               ह्या सर्व गोष्टींचे  कारण मुला/ मुलींच्या मैत्रिला गारजेपेक्षा जास्त स्वैरत देणे नाही काय ?? एक सिंपल प्रश्न विचारतो : युवक / युवती किंवा मुले / मुली अशी फ्रेंडशिप का लवकर होते ?? शारीरिक  आकर्षन तर नसेल ?? का त्याना कॉलेज / शाळा सुटल्यावर देखील आपापसात बोलू वाटते ??
               दुसरे एक कारण पार्टीस : ३१ डिसेंबेर व तत्सम करणानि होणार्‍या पार्ट्या ओ त्यामधे होणारे . ग्रूप डॅन्स आणि त्या कारणाने एकमेकाना  होणारा स्पर्श आणि हे सर्व डोळ्यासमोर दिसतनाही काही न बोलणारे पालक !! मग काय स्वैर वागण्याळा एक प्रकारची उभारीच / पाठिंबा  देण्यासारखेच नाही काय ?? हे सर्व शिक्षीत लोंकांचे अशिक्षित विचार नाहीत काय ?? आज ८० % मुले व मुली ह्या गोष्टींच्या आहारी गेल्या आहेत  आज . घरमधल्या मुलीदेखील पॉकेट मनी साठी कॉल गर्ल / वेश्या व्यवसाय करत आहेत. हे एक कटू सत्या आहे.
              जस्ट फ्रेंड्स किंवा तत्सम कारणाने मुले व मुली सर्रास एकमेकाना भेटतात , फोन करतात व त्याना त्यांचे पालक अप्रत्यक्षरित्या सात देतात का तर लहान आहेत चालायचच . मुले किटीजारी मोठी झळी तरी ती आई वडिलाना लहानाच . पण याच लहान वयात ते इतके मोठे पराक्रम करतात की सावरायला वेळच मिळत नहि.यत दोष कुणाच हे तर पाय घसरण्याचे वय  .. पण त्यामधे त्याना पालकानीच योग्या दिशा देणे गरजेचे आहे. प्रसंगी कठोर व्हा पण आंधलेपणाने सात देऊ नका. विचार करा आणि आजच आपला पल्यामधे वरील बाबी दिसून येतात का ते बघा ??
 मुलाचे व मुलीचे सर्व हट्ट पुरवणे म्हणजे संगोपन नाही तर त्यांचे योग्य हट्ट पुरवणे हेच सुसंकरित सुसन्गोपन ठरू शकेल. रस्त्याकडेला झोपणरे देखील त्यांच्या मुलांचे संगोपन करतातच पण सुसन्गोपन करू शकत नाहीत.

            माझा मुला व मुलींच्या मैत्री ला विरोध नाही तर त्यामधे होणार्‍या स्वैर वागण्याळा विरोध आहे . आधुनिकतेच्या नावाखाली डोळेझाक बंद करा ..जागे व्हा..

परस्परांच्या बुद्धीप्रकाशाने इच्छित स्थळ शोधाव लागतं

आयुष्य म्हणजे पाऊस....
आप्तांची रखरखता पुसण्यासाठी मुक्तपणे कोसळाव लागतं
कष्टांच्या खाच खळग्यातुन वाहत सुखसागराला मिळाव लागतं

पण ...आयुष्य हे असेच का ?
मला वाटते .. आयुष्य म्हणजे तान्हुल्याचे हास्य
जिथे स्वत:ही मुक्त कंठाने हसता येत.
आपण अनुभवताना दुसर्‍यालाही सुख देता येतं.

तुम्ही लोक गांधीचे नाव फक्त राजकारणसाठी वापरता. हेच खरे सत्य आहे. आणि अजून

आमचे लोक तुम्हाला गांधीच्या नावाने मते देतात.

जरा विचार कर कि तू RAUL VINCI या नावाने निवडणूक लढवत आहेस.

ज्यांनी घरात घेतले आणि ज्यांनी तुझ्याबरोबर फोटो काढून घेतले ते सुद्धा जवळ

उभे करणार नाहीत हे लक्षात ठेव.

सप्टेंबर २००१ मध्ये तुला एफ.बी.आइ ने बॉस्टोन विमानतळावर का अटक केली होती रे?

काटा येतो.

एफ.बी.आइला याविषयीची इन्फर्मेशन विचारली असता ते एन.ओ.सी मागतात राहुल गांधी

कडून.

का एन.ओ.सी मागतात हे गूढ राहुल गांधी आणि त्याची आईच सांगू शकते.

त्यावेळी सुब्रमाण्यम स्वामीने राहुल गांधीला पत्र लिहिले की जर तुमच्याकडे

लपवण्या सारखे काही नाही तर NOC का देत नाही एफ बी आइ ला ? येऊद्या की सगळी

माहिती बाहेर.

पण राहुल बाबा ने त्या पत्राला कधीच उत्तर दिले नाही. :)

जरा राहुल गांधीच्या शिक्षणा बद्दल बोलू.

राहुल गांधीला Harvard university मध्ये प्रवेश मिळाला तो सुद्धा donation

quota मध्ये कारण राजीव गांधीचे सरकार असताना हिंदुजा नि (आता हिंदुजा म्हणजे

कोण हे वेगळे सांगायला नको) ११ करोड रुपये donation दिले होते.

नंतर अगदी ३ महिन्यामध्येच याला कॉलेजमधून काढून टाकण्यात आले.(माफ कर राहुल पण

त्या कॉलेज चा dean मनमोहन सिंग नव्हते नाहीतर तुला अजून संधी मिळाली असती, पण

जगात एकच मनमोहन सिंग आहे. )

काही ठिकाणी अशी माहिती आहे कि राजीव गांधीच्या झालेल्या खुनामुळे तुला काढून

टाकले.

कदाचित असेल हि पण मग तू सगळीकडे असे का सांगत फिरत आहेस कि तू हार्वर्ड

univercity मधून Masters in Economics पूर्ण केले आहेस. Dr. SUBRAMANIYAM

स्वामी हे ज्या वेळी तुला तुझ्या गुणपत्रिका आणि biodata बद्दल विचारतात यावर

तुझ्या कडून कधीच काही उत्तर का आले नाही.

कारण तुला हार्वर्ड मधून काढून टाकले होते, तुझे शिक्षण पूर्णच झाले नाही. तू

हिंदी मध्ये नापास झालास म्हणून तुला UNIVERSITY ने काढून टाकले. आता जरा विचार

कर कि भारतातील एका अशा राज्याचे प्रतिनिधित्व करतोस जिथे सगळ्यात जास्त हिंदी

बोलली जाते.

आता सोनिया गांधीच्या शिक्षणा बद्दल बोलू.

सोनिया गांधीने शप्पथ घेऊन सांगितले होते कि त्या university of Cambridge मधून

इंग्रजी शिकल्या आहेत.


पण हे जेंव्हा cambridge ला विचारले तर त्यांनी सरळ सांगितले कि या नावाची

कोणतीही विद्यार्थिनी आमच्याकडे नाही आणि नव्हती.


या खोटेपणाबद्दल हि Dr. Subramaniyam स्वामी यांनी केस टाकली होती या गांधी

परिवार विरुद्ध.

सोनिया गांधी साधी हायस्कूल सुद्धा पास नाही. ती फक्त पाचवी पास आहे.

ठरवा आता कसले लोक भारताला चालवत आहेत.

Market review: Sensex slides ahead of Bernanke speech

Indian markets fell in line with European market ahead of an important speech from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. BSE Sensex closed below the psychological 16,000 mark at a 18 month low of 15,848, down 297.50 points. All the sector indices were in red on Friday, while 27 of the 30 Sensex stocks closed lower than previous day.

A number of frontline stocks hit their year low. Reuters

Among the BSE index stocks that fell the most was JP Associates which was down by over 7.5 percent, DLF down nearly 6 percent, Tata Steel fell over 4.75 percent while Reliance was down by over 4.5 percent at Rs 719.50.

Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group stocks were hit the most with Reliance Capital falling by over 12 percent at Rs 344.20, while Reliance Communication fell by over 10 percent at Rs 72.20. Reliance Capital has been replaced by Coal India in Nifty stocks.

A number of frontline stocks hit their year low including State Bank of India, Reliance Industries, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, Tata Steel, Tata Power, NTPC and Jai Prakash Associates.

Market breadth, a sign of the strength of the market was extremely bearish, with five stocks falling for every one that rose.

Realty stocks led the fall with the indices falling by over 4 percent. This was followed by metals which fell by 3.69 percent and oil and gas falling by 3.19 percent.

Tree House made its debut with a subdued listing but by the end of the day closed 12 per cent lower than the issue price at Rs 116.55. The company came out with an IPO at a price of Rs 129 for the retail investors.

No Monkey business: These stocks give Sensex a complex

Not bad! In the first week after their launch, our Monkey portfolios outperformed the BSE Sensex, the benchmark against which we’re measuring the performance of both portfolios.
